PCL 5. PCL XL. PostScript 3 Enables bidirectional communication The Job Accounting option allows an organization to track print jobs for accounting purposes by associating the print job with specific account information, including a user name or ID, an account code, and a department code. This enables the tracking of the number of print jobs from different users or departments, and the billing of those print jobs to a specific account. By associating print jobs with specific account information, quotas can be enforced on the print jobs that users can submit. Reduces cost for IT support With only one package to manage, testing and internal certification of print drivers is simplified by the use of the Lexmark Universal Print Driver packages.

Time spent on installation, both on servers and workstations, is greatly reduced, and hard drive space formerly occupied by many product-specific drivers is now diminished significantly. Enables increased user efficiency The Lexmark Universal Print Driver packages use the same graphic user interface as the product-specific drivers the users are accustomed to, and now all queues will share that same interface, decreasing calls to the help desk. Users can create and save profiles for their most frequently used settings, or use profiles that were created for them by IT. The latest version of the Lexmark Universal Print Driver features enhancements designed to improve usability for the end-user, and many changes to administrator tools to reduce the time and effort required to deploy and maintain your devices.

Listed below are highlights of the latest release, which still includes the great eco-friendly features found in the previous version. New user interface The new user interface of the Universal Print Driver provides a more consistent look and feel across all printer models, with controls and settings that have been modified to provide better language support and overall customer experience. The Universal Printer Driver is now available in more languages, and matches the language of your operating system. Administrators can also manually choose a specific language from the Configuration tab in the Printer Properties dialog if desired.

Enhanced Job Accounting The Job Accounting option allows an organization to track print jobs for accounting purposes by associating the print job with specific account information, including a user name or ID, an account code, and a department code. This enables the tracking of the number of print jobs from different users or departments, and the billing of those print jobs to a specific account. By associating print jobs with specific account information, quotas can be enforced on the print jobs that users can submit. Custom installation package With the new Universal Print Driver installer, administrators can choose to create preconfigured installation packages that include only the software and drivers that meet their organization's needs. This is accomplished by combining the custom installation package with Driver Configuration Files (DCFs), which lets administrators create a deployment package that best suits their environment. DCFs are described in more detail below. Dynamic driver configuration The latest version of the Universal Print Driver has the ability to update its user interface to reflect the features and options of any supported printer model.

When the driver is connected to a printer through USB or over a network, the driver automatically updates its configuration, showing only the features and functions of a chosen printer model. For example, only the paper sizes, trays, paper types, finishing options, and other options that the printer supports are shown to the user.

The driver can be configured to determine a printer model automatically. Administrators can also manually choose a specific printer model from the Configuration tab in the Printer Properties dialog.

Printer Driver Configuration Utility Administrators can use the Printer Driver Configuration Utility to create driver configurations. A driver configuration is a group of saved printer driver settings and other options that is stored in a Driver Configuration File (DCF). You can also create subset driver configurations that work across different printer models. You can use the utility to:.

Configure a printer object when installing it. Configure multiple printer objects, each with unique settings, for the same printer driver (also referred to as creating virtual printer objects). View, edit, or delete an existing configuration. Apply Resource Administration. Recommend settings that can be changed only at print time.

Enforce settings that cannot be changed by a user. Complete drivers and software for Windows This package includes Microsoft WHQL certified 32 and 64-bit PCL 5 emulation, PCL XL emulation, and PS3 emulation universal printer drivers and the following additional driver software:. Lexmark Phone Book: Manages fax contacts. Travel Print: Allows for print-time discovery of printers for users on the move (mobile printing). Printer Driver Configuration Utility: Allows for creation of custom driver configuration.

Package Creation Utility: Allows for creation of custom driver packages. This package will upgrade your existing installation of the universal printer driver.

I tried to print out a web form at amazon, but it said i had no printer installed. I did have, but had not used it since a recent OS reinstall. So, eventually i uninstalled and reinstalled the lexmark driver. I had a lot of error messages to do with spooling and after much research and changing of settings (printer spooling, RPC, DependOnService) the drivers seemed to install OK. In fact i soon realised i only had access to the XPS document writer.

I understand this is 'XP's default printer' I removed both this and the lexmark from 'printers and faxes' (and File/Server Properties) and tried again to reinstall the lexmark drivers. The installer seemed to work through OK, copying files to windows system (i tried using both the original CD and the latest driver from the web) but it then just closes leaving me with no printer drivers installed. In desperation, i tried a system restore, but despite trying my last two restore points it would not roll back, and it would not tell me why. Can any kind person please tell me how i might resolve this? I reinstalled XP SP3 a few days ago so it should be clean. Everything else seems to be working fine since.

The printer is a Z640 that has installed and worked fine a number of times before. My brain is a bit fagged after about 4 hours trying to sort this, so apologies if i've left out any important info which i will gladly supply if required. With the printer plugged in, go to Start/Printers and Faxes and if the printer is listed there, right click and Delete it. Now go to Start/Run and type appwiz.cpl and press Enter. In the Add/Remove programs uninstall any Lexmark software for your printer.

Now go to Start/Run and type devmgmt.msc and press enter. In the Device Manager do you have any yellow marks for any devices or under USB do you have an Unknown Device?

An item that has been professionally restored to working order by a manufacturer-approved vendor. Ati r9-280x. which one to choose for mac external hard drive

If so, right click and Uninstall it. Now unplug the USB cable from the computer end and restart the computer without the USB cable plugged in. Once the computer has booted, install the downloaded driver for the Lexmark. Making sure the printer is turned on, in the process of the install, when it asks for the USB cable plug it into the Back USB port of the computer and not in the Front or through a Hub, these are less powerful ports. If you get the New Hardware Wizard, do not cancel it, just continue on with the Lexmark driver install. It should finish and show the printer under printers and faxes. Right click the printers/properties and print a test page.

If not, go back to Device Manager and uninstall any flagged devices, unplug the USB from the computer end and restart the computer and once the computer has restarted plug in the USB. Hi and thanks for the comprehensive reply. However, i tried pretty much all these things last night and having just tried again, following your instructions, i get the same result Just to expand a bit, relative to your post. No printers at all in 'printers and services' and no yellow or unknown devices in device manager before or after the 'installation'. (Device manager has no 'USB' heading, but the entries under 'Human Interface devices' and 'Universal Serial Bus controllers' appear fine.

Is that what you meant?) Add/Remove Programmes contained no printer entry, but the were two folders from previous attempts on the HD: C Lexmark and C Program Files Lexmark 600 Series. I deleted these before the install attempt, although the installer offers to overwrite them anyway. Incidentally, if i reboot with the printer attached, windows recognises it, right down to the model number, but no way will it complete the installation. Hope you have some further suggestions when things get going that side of the pond.

Sorry about the repeated posts but i can't edit my last. Anyway, i seem to have half solved the problem, which i believe was caused by my not having language monitor installed. Instead of running cjb640EN.exe (the latest drivers) I extracted the files and found lxdaw2k.inf in Lexmark Driver Lexmark lxk640 drivers WINXP2K. I opened it in notepad and placed a semicolon at the beginning of the line that read 'LanguageMonitor=%LEXMONITOR%' I then ran setup.exe in Lexmark Driver Lexmark lxk640 drivers WINXP2K ENGLISH. The installer said it made a change to my system (twice) and then ran through perfectly. The problem now is i cannot print a test page despite following the instructions above as 'the printer cannot communicate with the computer'.
