Msi N1996 Sound Card Driver For Mac
First off let me say I'm not sure this is in the right thread, so if there's a better place for this please let me know and I'll post there. So today I went to put another HDD into my computer, and as I was closing it all up and running checks to make sure I didn't mess up anything while poking around, I noticed my PC isn't producing any audio. I have a 3.5mm cable going to my home theater system I've used for around two years now, without problem.
I checked to see if that cable was at fault and it isn't, I checked that the right sound device was the default, I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers, I tried the jack in the back (I've been using the one in the front), I even tried using a different HD audio part from another computer plugged into my motherboard and not even that worked. After that I tried a USB headset, and a pair of 1/4' headphones into an audio interface for recording going into another USB port and they both work; it's just that 3.5mm jack, all of them. I thought I might've hit or bent the pins where the HD audio is connect while I was redoing the cable management, but I checked and the pins all look intact. Is there anything I can try?
What would be causing this? Am I going to have to get a new motherboard or is there an audio out that plugs in via USB that I can use instead? I'm using the MSI MS-7778 from an HP Pavilion p7-1240 desktop, I'll provide any other technical information if needed.
My sound went out this month on the same MB. I ordered a 5.1 channel PCI sound card for one of the three expansion slots. It is sure to work. For kicks I added a USB sound dongle for $.99 that might work also.
Both are from EBAY, free shipping from China and under $13 total. It takes weeks to get here. The 'puter is p7-1436. PS The MB is giving me fits in other ways, too.
Weekly, or so, the BIOS needs to be jumper reset in order to boot. I will be adding some thermal paste to the CPU plate before giving up on it; it costs $80 to $160. The system is just over three years of daily use.

To identify the sound card, follow the steps below (Assuming that you are using Windows XP). Open Device Manager (Right-click My ComputerPropertiesHardwareDevice Manager).
The hardware whose drivers are missing will appear as Unknown device, so it’s easier to locate the device. Right click on the unknown device and click on Properties. Under the Properties window click on Details tab and select Device Instance Id from the drop down box. You should see a code similar to this PCI VEN 8086&DEV 27DC&SUBSYS30868086&REV01 4&1E46F438&0&40F0. The portion of the code highlighted in RED is the Vendor ID and the portion highlighted in GREEN is the Device ID. In this example: Vendor ID = 8086 Device ID = 27DC.
