Book Database For Ms Office For Mac

I use Microsoft Office for Mac on a 2013 iMac with OS X Yosemite Version 10.10.5. When permanently deleting batches of e-mails from my Outlook 'Deleted Items' folder, my computer froze (firstly the coloured spinning beachball appeared, then the computer stared buzzing quite loudly, then the screen went black) and I had no option but to turn it off. When restarting the computer and opening Outlook, I found that while I can still open the 'Deleted Items' folder, I cannot work with it - whether I try to highlight an individual e-mail, or scroll down the list of e-mails, or copy the whole folder, or permanently delete the whole folder, I get the spinning beachball and a window saying 'There is a problem with the Office database. To use the database you must rebuild it using the Database Utility'.

When I click 'Rebuild', the Microsoft Database Utility opens and the process of 'Rebuilding Main Identity' begins. However, after completing 4 of the 5 steps (Scanning, Verifying, Copying records to new database, Recovering data), I get a message saying 'your database could not be rebuilt -18000'.

I have tried the rebuild process several times with the same result. At this stage it would seem that only the 'Deleted Items' folder is corrupted - I can still receive and send e-mails and the 'Inbox', 'Sent Items' and 'Draft' folders seem to be OK. I can also delete items from the inbox, but don't know if these are going into the 'Deleted Items' folder (- because I can't get into the folder to see if they are there). Does anybody know how I can resolve this?

Can I somehow contain and resolve the problem specifically in relation to the 'Deleted Items' folder, or will I have to rebuild the database for Outlook as a whole - and if the latter, how should I proceed? Many thanks in advance for any advice offered. When you export, don't delete anything at all. When you setup a new identity, you'll have to re-enter the info for your account. The archive has all the local data (On My Mac emails, contacts and events), but none of the settings or preferences. Once the account setup, Outlook will reconnect and depending ont he type of account, it will redownload everything that's on the account from the server (e.g. All your emails for IMAP and Exchange accounts).

Everything you reimport in Outlook will end up in the On My Computer section in Outlook. If anything goes bad, you can use the database utility again to revert back to the other identity. It should be a very safe process. Corentin — MVPs do.not. work for MS Les MVP ne.travaillent pas.
